FCCLA launches the 2016-2017 Safe Rides – Save Lives PSA Contest! Empowered by FACTS and sponsored by The National Road Safety Foundation, the Safe Rides - Save Lives PSA contest is an opportunity for FCCLA members to engage in creating teen-friendly safe rides safety messaging through a video Public Service Announcement (PSA).

Mission: Have your students create a video PSA that is exactly: 25 seconds OR exactly: 55 seconds

Audience: Teen Drivers and Passengers

Topic: The PSA should raise awareness of teen driver risk in relation to the number (and limiting the number) of passengers in a vehicle. So, encourage your students to be inventive and create a message that will stand out, be remembered, and make a positive difference.

Why: A number of studies have shown that passengers substantially increase the risk of crashes for young, novice drivers. Teenage drivers are two-and-a-half times more likely to engage in one or more potentially risky behaviors when driving with just one teenage peer. The PSA goal is to develop and send teen-friendly messages to prevent traffic crashes and save lives.

How: Your students have creative license. Just be sure their messages are in good taste and that they DON'T film themselves or anyone else while driving or in unsafe conditions.

When: Video submissions are due on or before Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11:59:59 PM ET. (contest is closed for this year)

Awards: Cash prizes will be awarded directly to the individual or group of top three submissions:

1st Place: $3,500
2nd Place: $1,000
3rd Place: $500
Students may work individually or as part of a team. FCCLA will submit the winning PSA to the National Association of Broadcasters, for use in national PSA outreach opportunities.
